At the end of August, AKEDA hosted our fall conference on Immersive Eating Disorder Essentials, featuring Dr. Tara Deliberto, Ph.D., a renowned clinical psychologist and author. We were joined by 35 dedicated providers from across Alaska, including participants from Fairbanks and Sitka. Their presence and engagement show a significant commitment to improving eating disorder treatment in our state.
One attendee remarked, “The training provided was crucial for our state and valuable to all participants from various professional backgrounds. The need for eating disorder training in Alaska was clearly demonstrated through the interactive discussions and shared personal experiences. Many highlighted the shortage of resources available to meet the needs of clients.”
Several conference attendees from organizations that provide residential services reported that 80% or more of their female patients experience eating issues and body concerns. They emphasized the strong need for ongoing training in this area. The commitment of these providers to deepening their understanding of eating disorders is making a significant impact and is crucial for improving the support and resources available within the communities they serve.
In addition to leading two full days of our Fall Conference, Dr. Tara Deliberto also facilitated our Supporting Loved Ones Workshop. This workshop, designed for caregivers, parents, family members, and friends, provided invaluable resources, thoughtful recommendations, and encouragement. Dr. Deliberto’s guidance was helpful in continuing the dialogue on how to best support loved ones dealing with eating disorders.
Thank you to GCI and the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority for your continued support of AKEDA and for sponsoring our Caregiver Workshop and Fall Conference.
